3D apartment tours in VR

Apartment viewings are always a bit of a hassle – for both sides. Too often, potential tenants arrive at the apartment in question with high expectations based on a few, selectively taken pictures which they have seen in an online listing. While a home-seeker with prior experience will know how deceptively different the pictures can look from the actual look & feel of an apartment, there is never a real way of knowing until they physically walk through the apartment. Until now.

Knowing without going

At Citylife, we have introduced virtual 3D tours for our most recent apartment listings. This allows interested tenants to take in the apartment from every possible angle, in their own time, from the comfort of their own home. It may not change the need or desire to view the place in person before committing to signing a tenancy agreement, but it certainly reduces the likelihood of returning from the showing with broken expectations.

Virtual 3D tours

The virtual tours are made with a high-definition 3D camera which maps and connects the apartment as a whole. It produces a virtual model of the apartment, which can be viewed and turned from any angle. Viewers can place themselves into any corner of any room, with the ability to zoom in and out on details that they would have missed on mere pictures. The ability to enter any room and ‘walk’ from one room to the next gives viewers a great feel for the size and layout of the entire apartment.

On phone and PC, the virtual tours already make for a dramatically enhanced experience. For next-level realism, users can also view the apartment in virtual reality. The tours are compatible with Google Cardboard, Oculus Rift, and any other VR headset. Take a look at what it’s like to walk through the apartment in virtual reality:

Future-proof housing

The virtual 3D tours are just one of many ways in which Citylife is using technology to change the traditional housing experience. Upcoming apartments will be equipped with smart-home devices such as video doorbells, smart thermostats and Wifi-connected lights. As such, members can control their home temperature remotely, see who’s ringing the bell without getting up from the sofa, and control the entire apartment lighting – either through their phone or, better yet, via voice-control, without even getting in or out of bed.
